“Multimedia Educational Supplies for Auxiliary Schools”
The project supposes team-work involving the CLS’s libraries’ staff ( librarians, web designers ) and the teachers of secondary school 21 to create multimedia supplies (discs) for auxiliary schools on the following subjects:
1) The Kazakh language;
2) The World around Us;
3) Literature;
4) Social Adaptation.
The Purpose: preparing, publishing and spreading electronic production for auxiliary schools.
Tasks:
5) selecting and classifying methodical materials for auxiliary schools on general subjects;
6) creating multimedia supplies on the basis of auxiliary schools’ teachers
7) approving the results of work

SI “Auxiliary school # 21” was founded in 1969. “Light mentally handicapped” (F-70) and “moderate mentally handicapped” (F–71) children are taught in this school.
The children up to 18 years old, who have physical and mental disabilities, are regarded as disabled. The specialists observation shows the number of children with different kinds of disabilities has increased. There are 11000 thousand disabled children in EKO. The children whose cognition and emotional sphere were damaged because of injure of cerebral cortex are considered as mentally handicapped. Ust-Kamenogorsk Auxiliary School # 21 work with such kind of children.

“Light mentally handicapped” (F-70) and “moderate mentally handicapped” (F–71) children are taught in this school. Since 2006-2007 the school turned to ten-year- school program.
Teaching in special (correction) school for the children with intellectual disabilities consists of two stages:
1 stage - I - IV forms;
2 stage - basic (V - IХ forms, Х industrial process form).
The children at the ages of 7-8 are accepted to the preparation and the first forms. Limited age is 18 лет. There are no more than 12 pupils in a class. The teachers use correction and educational methods of teaching which they change according to the educational stage, individual abilities of the pupils. In 1-4 forms the specialists conduct medical, psychological and pedagogical study of the child and give them elementary education with correction support. The subject “Correction of cognition” was included in basic educational plan for pupils of 1- 9 forms. On the main stage the children get general educational preparation which responds to their psychological and physical abilities and skills in different types of work, elementary professional preparations. Some subjects carry auxiliary training. For example, the Nature Study includes Geography with basic knowledge in ecology.
From 4 to 6 forms the subject “General Work Preparation is taught. The subject is propaedeutic, profdiagnostic and proforientational for the future professional work training, and helps to adapt the children for their future social lives. In the process of general work training the children get basic skills of seamstress and joinery.
Criterion of the state standard demands to determine the norms of school education quality. Taking into account the heterogeneity of the pupils according to medical tests and clinical and psychological references these norms can not be the same in the system of special education. In the base of variation norms there is pedagogical differentiation of auxiliary schools’ pupils, which was developed by the specialists of Correction Pedagogy Institute of Russian Education Academy under V.V. Voronkova. The main evidence that the intellectual disabled children can be taught:
Ability to summarize gained information;
Deliberation determined by correlation of verbal , logical and practical components of understanding ability.
Independence in solution of tasks
Receptivity of the children to help, their reaction to the character and volume of help.
According to these statements four groups of pupils are marked out. The basic educational plan of special (correction) school for intellectual disabled children is a main normative document which regulates the organization and education process, assists to prepare children to future life in the modern society. On the base of it curtain study plans are developed. These plans are initial document for financing the school.
The first type of the study program (class “А”) is a common program of auxiliary school and directed to light mentally handicapped children.
The second type of the study program (class “B”) is a light version of the program directed to moderate damage of intellectual ability. This category of children includes clinical and psychological group. In moderate damage of intellectual ability biological factors caused by underdevelopment of cerebrum have significance. The subjects in the study plan are arranged according to cycles:
Humanitarian;ü
ü Science and;
Culture study ;
ü Social adaptation and work rehabilitation;
correctionü technologies.
Traditional subjects are taught in the auxiliary school. They are adapted for mentally handicapped children.
“Correction Rhythmic” This course is directed to develop the motor sphere of the children, to improve their space orientation, adroitness in motion, sense of musical and motion rhythm, to impart aesthetic sense.
“Social orientation” The children are practically prepared for independent lives, the teachers teach them how to adapt the social life, to build their own mode of life according to the norms and the rules of the community. The class is divided into two groups in SO.
“Correction of Cognitive Activity” This course can be taught as for individual student as for group of students. It is directed to develop damaged functions of the children, to prepare them to educational and practical work.
“Therapeutic Physical Training (TPT)” Group and individual classes are conducted to manage motion damages. The groups are formed by the doctor’s recommendation.
“Speech Therapy Classes” These classes take a very important place in the process of correction mentally handicapped children. Speech damages have negative influence on psychological development of the mentally handicapped children.
In the presence of parallel classes the school has differentiation study: 1-2 groups – 1 type (class “А”); 3-4 groups – 2 type class “Б”). On the base of basic study plan flexible study plan is made according to the level of their cognitive abilities. The start of the school year and holidays are fixed within the rules of all general education schools. In the first form during the first half year the children’s knowledge is not valuated. Speech Therapy classes are conducted as for individuals as for groups completed by taking into account their speech damages according to the doctor’s recommendation.
The hours given for extra classes are used for work training. At present it is “Fur clothes work”, “Planting of greenery”. Studying in the school for mentally handicapped children can be completed by passing exams on work training. The special correction organization of education of mentally handicapped children is the only organization which does not give property qualification education. Each child gains minimum necessary volume of knowledge. The teacher has rights to determine an individual program according to cognitive abilities of a child. The monitoring system, which allows to take proper measures of correction influence, has been developed. to коррекционной помощи, для объективной оценки уровня ЗУН учащихся школы в ходе ОЭР разработана система мониторинга, позволяющая своевременно и профессионально выработать соответствующие ситуации меры коррекционного воздействия.
Major subjects are focused on work training.
The girls study seamstress, knitting, embroidery. The boys study joinery. Their works are demonstrated in city, oblast and republic exhibitions of children’s creativity. In 2002 works of the auxiliary’s school’s children were awarded by certificates at the Republic exhibition “We Will keep and Double Heritage of Our Aancestors” held in Almaty.
The school are seriously equipped. “Soft” room is completed by “clever” toys. “Clever” because they improve the children’s intellect, their physical and psychological abilities.

Sensor room is specially equipped room directed to hold therapy sessions which are important for as adults as children with disabilities.
The equipment activates the basic senses – eye-sight, hearing, smell, taste, and the process of excitation and inhibition.
The equipment of the sensor room settles the following tasks:
• harmonize psychological and emotional condition;
• prevent aggressive behaviour;
• decrease neurotic reactions;
• develop cognition.

School Psychology, Medical and Pedagogical Conference of Specialist Doctors’ Work
In 2003 SPMPCSDW started working. Its activity was on base of Russian regulation of SPMPCSDW, after it had processing treatment. Since September 1st 2006 we follow the Republic regulation of SPMPCSDW. Psychology, Medical and Pedagogical Conference of Specialist Doctors’ Work is a functional unit and a diagnostic and consultative type of structure directed to settling mentally handicapped problems. The school Conference of Specialist Doctors follow UNO’s Convention of Child’s right, RK Laws of “Education”, “Social, medical and pedagogical correction support of disabled children, Normative and Law Documents of RK Education Ministry. The purpose of the Conference of Specialist Doctors’ establishing is to provide optimal therapy and psychology-pedagogical condition for mentally handicapped children.

At present 140 students are taught at this school. According to the medical survey almost one third is taught at home. The school staff do their best to give qualified help for all the children.
In 2006 the school didn’t have leavers, because the 10th practical training class and the students continued to study at school.

The results of the research are not so positive. It is very hard to adapt to the conditions of modern society for the leavers of the auxiliary school. It is the most important t problem which must be settled by the Government interference.
